Sing It Girl

January 21, 2010

I was very recently (two days ago) introduced to the greatness that is Susan Tedeschi, blues singer extraordinare.  Looking for a more bluesy, updated version of Bonnie Rait (big ups, Bonnie)?  Then you will absolutely love Susan.  I suggest checking out, “It Hurt So Bad” and “Little by Little,” which are on constant repeat right now.

Susan is the type of singer that makes you want to call up your parents and yell at them for not letting you take singing lessons, or for not raising you with more soul, or for not letting you grow up with more sass and fiestiness.  Be right back, I am calling my mom right now and I am going to yell at her for raising me in a painfully, normal environment.

Guest Post (sort of): The Male Perspective

January 20, 2010

My brother’s observations on his first day back at ISU for the spring semester.  I see a fashion critic in the making.

1. Northface makes full legnth puffy jackets as well as short puffy jackets.
Thoughts on this discovery: puffy jackets are like puffy vests they look terrible and make anyone look like a Russian sailor whose submarine is going down.

2. Mustard colored sweatpants tucked into Ugg boots.
Thoughts on “trend”: originally thought that this was a trend that began when I started college. Discovered that this actually began with the Native Americans shortly after Columbus introduced sweatpants to the natives.

Old Town Alexandria Boutique Warehouse

January 19, 2010

Old Town Alexandria just announced their Boutique Warehouse sale, set for February 6th 9 a.m.-3 p.m.  I am excited to see that Mint Condition is listed as one of the participating stores!  I went consignment clothes shopping this weekend and scored a great, green dress at Second Time Around in Boston (on the awesome Newbury Street).  I hope their prices are just as good at Second Time Around’s were.

Vintage Shops!

January 13, 2010

One of my favorite blogs is What I Wore, and now I am even more of a fan after her big reveal of Vintage Where? Vintage Where is just what you would expect it to be, a website where you can search and find vintage shops all across the good, ole U.S of A!

Vintage Where you ask?

After becoming such a fan of What I Wore, and other bloggers that tout vintage styles, I have decided to dive into the land of vintage and thrifty shopping to see what I can find.  So what are the do’s and don’t’s of vintage shopping? Are there any scams or great deals I should be aware of?

Free Georgetown Cupcake

January 11, 2010

Hey all!  Follow Georgetown Cupcake on Facebook and the rewards are sweet (and free!).  Fans of the GC Facebook page can be part of their “Off the Menu” promotion.  Each day, GC will tell you what the new flavor is, and all you have to do is go to their Bethesda or Georgetown location, ask for it, and you get it for free.  Simple enough, right?

Lady Gaga Barbie Doll

January 8, 2010

Just when you thought you couldn’t get enough of Lady Gaga, doll artist Veik gives Gaga fans to drool over.  Yep, now you can own Lady Gaga, well, at least her Barbie.

She is styling all the crazy, fantastic, awesome, weird, what-have-you fashions she made famous this year–even the Kermit the Frog dress (?) she wore!

Mad Men

January 7, 2010

Is it just me or does TULLE clothing remind you of Mad Men?  I love the fun prints and bright colors!  Also, their sale right now is pretty amazing.  Apparently they had a clearance going on earlier in the week in which most of their sale items were on clearance for $3.  While I am certainly sad that I missed out, I will happily take most of the deals they are now offering.

Take for instance this beautiful tulip skirt:

Cotton Tulip Skirt, $26

Looking for something edgier?

Faux Leather Jacket, $85

Looking forward to spring?

Lawn Flare Skirt, $34

Happy shopping!
